GAMING 4 CHARITY EVENT
We came, we saw, we killed it...for charity. GamersNights was invited by Hive Colab incubation hub to co-host a "Gaming 4 Charity" event for the "40 days over 40 smiles" charity foundation. The 40/40 foundation was established with the sole purpose of helping vulnerable children and communities to access quality, all-round education support and entrepreneurial training aimed at self-sustainability. After the success of the Gulu robotics camp, Gamers Nights decided to “take a shot” at supporting the dormitory building project that the 40/40 Foundation is undertaking in Luweero District.
Two camera crews from Urban TV, a local TV station whose primary audience is the youth, were in attendance. One crew was filming material for an on-going Urban TV show called Innovate, which follows Hive Colab's activities in the tech space. The other crew was filming material for our new Gamers Nights TV show that will be airing soon. As soon as we arrived, we started setting up to join our “Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3” server where some of our members that weren't able to make it were waiting. However, a laggy internet connection to the server made things difficult. As we were troubleshooting network issues, there were at least four stations at which “Mortal Kombat- Komplete Edition” was being played simultaneously. Eventually we gave up on the online server and decided to set up a local COD MW3 server to entertain the now very anxious gamers. Tournaments of Mortal Kombat and Fifa were going on and winners were crowned and awarded bragging rights in their respective disciplines.
Meanwhile we had someone going around collecting donations from everyone for the charity. At the end of the day, we had collected a little over UGX300,000. Thanks to our loyal gamers for always answering the call of duty, and all who attended and made this day a success.
